Eating HEALTHY

How can I be healthy and still enjoy food? That is a question that I ask myself all the time.

Last week we went to the farmer's market to pick up veggies, fruit and poultry. I believe that fresh food, cooking everything yourself and exercising regularly are my key to staying fit and healthy. Unfortunately after having our daughter Heidi it took me years to get back into shape. My weight started to drop only when I began eating a very healthy diet high in veggies and protein, drinking lots of water and last but definitely not least working out 3 - 4 times a week.

Of course I treat myself like here at the market where we had waffles and panini's for lunch. I also believe that cutting out all sugars and sweets are unhealthy because of the cravings that you are building up. Here are a few of my tips: Eat dark chocolate 70% instead of milk chocolate, eat fruits when you feel the urge for sweets, a spoonful of peanut butter works wonders as well as a cup of tea or a glass of water.

But still enjoy the good things in life!

Birthday Girl Talk

A few days ago I celebrated my Birthday. I had a fabulous and relaxed day with our daughter, my husband and my parents and a little birthday party with friends in the evening.

We went out for lunch to the family friendly Aspria in Hamburg Uhlenhorst across the street from us. They recently changed the menu and even though the dishes haven't changed that much, the quality of the food has improved. My husband had the best dish - as he always does. It must be because he is a chef and he just knows what to pick - he ate a really puffed up Schnitzel (I actually ate half of it because it was so yummy that I could not stop stealing it off his plate). Even if you are non members like we are you can come here and enjoy the food and the big and sunny roof terrace in the summer.

It is hard to get a really good Schnitzel in Hamburg. You may be surprised and think the Germans should have their Schnitzel down but very often the Schnitzel is not puffed up and it looks rather greasy. We are always searching for comforting good Schnitzel and so far the Schnitzel at Vienna was always a good option. We also tried the Schnitzel at Tschebull but were a bit disappointed. Maybe it is better now, we went there in 2012 and they might have had a bad day. I went back once afterwards for lunch and that was fantastic but a little pricey.

But back to my birthday and the presents. My favourite present must be the voucher for the DaySpa in Aspria. I already made a reservation for the Classic Facial and a back massage and can't wait for Monday to come. When you spent over 100 Euros you can use the whole facility for no extra charge all day long, so I will take advantage of that and start with an early morning workout, then I will head over to the Spa, get my two treatments (oh what a joy!) and hopefully feel blissfully happy and relaxed afterwards. To top it all off I am planning to use their luxurious wellness and Spa area with heated pool, aromatherapy sauna, steam room and so on, that I usually smell when I walk by with Heidi on our way home from the playground. I love the smell of wellness, it seriously relaxes me and takes my mind off the daily stressy things. I will report back on my wellness day.

I got some really lovely birthday presents from my friends as well - a blue & black leopard scarf, a chic black leather wallet from &otherStories, an amazing smelling body butter "one ginger morning' from Treacle Moon and lovely flowers. They really made my day or better my night! The Treacle Moon Body Butter smells amazing, it is really fresh and smells very lemony and a little spicy from the ginger. After a workout or in the morning it feels especially good and refreshing.

The leopard scarf is perfect for black lovers like myself who are looking for a bit of colour but not too much. I love the subtleness. It fits to almost everything and still give some extra oomph to your outfits. A black t-shirt with blue jeans and the scarf thrown over and your outfit is complete or in the winter with your grey, beige or black wool coat. I love simple outfits that you can vary and that are OK for work as well as for the playground or a coffee date with a friend. But it still has to have that edge that makes you stand out a bit. Most of my wardrobe is basic and simple but the key are the accessories in my opinion. Add a cool statement bracelet, a scarf, stylish boots and the outfit elevates itself. That's my motto anyways...simple with an edge.

Maybe I will post some pictures of my fall outfits 2014 if I come around to take some pictures.
